A Song of Confrontation
Well, here you are standing on the edge and looking down
No doubt you’re remembering what you traded and what you’ve found
And everything you used to love and think that mattered
You see left on the ground, thrown, broken and shattered
Did you get what you were after or is your world so black
You can’t even work the courage up to try to turn back?
I don’t even know who you are for who you’ve become
And look around you now—do you see anyone???
You tossed your family for a cheaper faster thrill
And you gave up your integrity for what wasn’t even real
Who am I to judge you but someone who you’ve let go?
I can’t even look at you, because I don’t want to know
The darkness inside of you is coming up for proof
You turned your back on all that you knew to be the truth
You lean into your excuse like it’s a reason why
You left in the dust all you needed to get by
I don’t have the sympathy I should have for you
Because I’ve walked a harder road than you’ve had to do
And maybe I faltered and yeah, I even fell
But I never told my own babies they could all go to hell—
You won’t ever see my words because even if you do
You’ll only be angry knowing they are meant for you
And I’m not throwing judgment just passing on the truth
For everything I’ve seen lately, you’ve got no excuse.
We used to pray together, we used to sing the song
And reach out to help the ones whose lives had gone all wrong
And I’ll admit that I need to go back there again
But you’re too far away to even recognize your sin
I’m coming to you in love and I’m coming in my hurt
I’m offering you a hand up out of the dirt
I don’t want to stand here pushing you over the ledge
But I don’t even think you know you’re on the edge
Open your eyes and remember who you were before
I’ve always believed you were called to more
I won’t apologize for the words I say
I hope it makes you realize and then turn away
But even if you never come back into the fold
Even if you scorn your loss until you’re very old
I know one day you’ll feel remorse for everything you’ve done
I hope when that day comes, you’ll turn to the Son.
